Math Therapy using the Singapore Math Method
The best approach to teaching any student, including those who are neurodiverse, is to individualize instruction and use a variety of methods that cater to their specific strengths and needs.

Singapore Math is a curriculum framework developed in Singapore that emphasizes a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. This method of teaching math is helpful for certain neurodiverse learners through the three frameworks:
-
Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) Approach: This method introduces new concepts through hands-on activities (concrete), then progresses to visual representations (pictorial), and finally, to abstract mathematical symbols. The CPA approach's emphasis on visuals can benefiit students who learn best by seeing and manipulating objects.
-
Focus on Problem Solving: Students are encouraged to develop strategies and think critically to solve problems, rather than simply memorize formulas. The focus on learning strategies and the "why" over memorization can be helpful for students who find rote learning challenging.
-
Mastery Learning: The curriculum is designed to ensure students fully grasp a concept before moving on to new ones. The clear and logical progression of the curriculum can provide a predictable and supportive learniing environment for some students.
The BLS curriculum is a testament to the power of personalized learning and multisensory instruction. By equipping students with the right tools and fostering their unique strengths, we can empower them to navigate the world of language with confidence and joy through:
-
Engaging multiple senses: The could involve using auditory (hearing), visual (seeing), kinesthetic (touching/movement), and tactile (feeling) activities to reinforce learning.
-
Explicit instruction: Breaking down concepts into smaller, manageable steps and providing reading fluency and comprehension, written and oral Expression.
-
Systematic and cumulative: Building skills sequentially, with frequent review and practice to ensure mastery.

Mastery learning: This curriculum, built on the cornerstones of multisensory learning and structures literacy, equips students with the tools they need to conquer language challenges and unlock their full potential.
Academic Language Therapy using the BLS Approach
A basic language skills curriculum is an individualized approach for students with dyslexia and typically incorporates a multisensory, structured literacy approach.
